A distinction is made between basal metabolic rate (BMR) and total demand. The so-called basal metabolism is the Energy that the body needs even in complete silence in order to maintain its function. The basal metabolic rate is mainly dependent on body weight, but also on age. The total requirement (kilo-) calories, however calculated from the basal metabolic rate + energy consumption by physical movement (Work / sports, etc.). Again, who will bring more kilos on the scales, consumes more calories at his activities.
